Demo Phase: Prior Lake VFW Renovation

Stanley & Wencl was hired for a renovation of the Prior Lake, MN VFW Post 6208. Groundbreaking ceremonies occurred May 23, 2023 and renovation activities began shortly thereafter. Appropriately, military themes will be carried throughout the renovation and design selections to honor the veteran members who served and are the core reason for upgrading the facility.

The main level bar and restaurant area will be fully renovated. The new main floor bar and restaurant will be constructed with more seating, new bar equipment and backroom bar facilities including a new cooler. This will enhance the ability of staff to better serve the VFW members and public. The kitchen will receive an addition of a future cooler-freezer area. The lower level banquet area will also be improved. Total improved square footage is 7,751.

A primary objective of the remodel is to increase access and provide an ADA compliant main entry. A new public access to the lower level banquet area via the main entry is also being constructed. A legacy raised seating area on the north side of the main floor will be removed

and lowered to be flush with the main floor elevation. This rejoinder of the north seating area to the main floor eliminates ADA access barriers. Also on the main level a new larger stage and presentation area will be built and will include upgraded audio-visual low voltage components. This will not only enhance live entertainment but also provide improved meeting and presentation facilities. The new stage will also be ADA accessible.

Structural enhancements include increasing the span of existing structural steel via upgrades to the legacy framework. This allows for removal of columns which will improve sight-lines, usability and add a sense of openness. In addition, reworked existing structure will allow for installation of the new lower level banquet entry and ADA ramps.

Interior improvements include new ceilings and lighting installed throughout the building to bring a fresh, contemporary look. Comprehensive new HVAC equipment and ducting will improve patron comfort and environmental efficiencies.

The renovated VFW Post 6208 will provide the City of Prior Lake and surrounding communities with much needed entertainment, banquet and meeting facilities.
